Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

The widowed inventor Caractacus Potts lives with his two children and his eccentric father. The children have lost their hearts to an old racing car in a junkyard, and so their father has no choice other than to buy it and restore it. But that's not all: He turns it into a magic car that can actually swim and fly. Because of the strange noises that the engine makes, the car is immediately nicknamed "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". But the car's magical powers arouse the envy of Baron Bomburst of Vulgaria, who desperately wants the car. When he fails in his attempt, he has his men kidnap Caractacus' father, whom he thinks is the inventor. Naturally, Caractacus and the children, together with the beautiful Truly Scrumptious, the daughter of a rich confectionary manufacturer, immediately set off for Vulgaria to free Grandpa Potts – with Chitty's help!

Do you remember the charming musical fantasy film from 1968 based on the famous children's book by James Bond creator Ian Fleming? It was filmed partly at Neuschwanstein Castle, and the hit music from the film by the Sherman brothers, who had also written the music for Disney's "Jungle Book" and "Mary Poppins", received an Oscar and two Golden Globe nominations. In 2002, the film was transformed into a stage musical for London's West End, where it played for three and a half years to packed houses before conquering New York's Broadway. The State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz is the first German-speaking theatre to succeed in obtaining the coveted performance rights. You can look forward to a fantastic, fairy-tale musical experience for the whole family in a production by Josef E. Köpplinger.
