Mozart meets Ravel
What is so special about this concert?
We show you the roots of classical music: Dance music or Gebrauchsmusik (utility music) and folklore. Mozart and Ravel are contextualised with one another in our programme. You can therefore hear how Ravel, for whom Mozart was a god, continues his tradition, while also drawing on Spanish influences. After the concert in the Salon Pitzelberger you can then experience these in a pure form, namely in our support programme – with spicy Flamenco rhythms to conclude!
What have Mozart and Ravel in common?
Not only are they both great composers, they are also masters of instrumentation, which we will hear both in the world-famous Bolero and in the rest of the programme’s pieces. And by drawing on traditional elements both also create entirely unique atmospheres. Mozart, for example, uses a Gregorian chant, while Ravel goes for an old Spanish step dance – and they make something entirely new out of them.
