»I have lost myself and yet gained everything.« Konstantin Wecker puts these words into the mouth of Anselm Cavaradossi Hüttenbrenner, the first-person narrator of his novel »Der Klang der ungespielten Töne« [The sound of unplayed notes], at the start of his story. »Now that I have rid myself of everything with which and for which I have made such a noise all my life, I have met silence here, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city.« It is noise that has almost robbed Hüttenbrenner of sight and hearing. In particular, it is the noise of the commercial music industry into which the young musician has been lured by the promise of the easy money that he can earn in the studios. But it's not about music any more. Then one day, he meets a man called Karpoff who asks something quite outrageous of him: He must try to take time for himself.
Konstantin Wecker's novel »Der Klang der ungespielten Töne« is about music – and about silence. The actor and author Michael Dangl has created a version for three narrators, cello and orchestra, in which Wecker's novel is brought to the stage in a literary, musical form for the first time – with the full power and poetry of Wecker's language and the boundless musical wealth described in it, which the reader has only been able to imagine until now.
