Chamber Concerts 2012/13

»Sag’, welch’ wunderbare Träume ...«

At the beginning of the year, we are inviting you to a concert which spans the arc from the Classical to the Romantic era, with works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Josef Gabriel Rheinberger and Richard Wagner.

If Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante is one of the most famous works in the Classical era, then Richard Wagner's settings of poems by Mathilde Wesendonck – created at the same time as the opera "Tristan und Isolde" – embody the unfulfilled longing typical of Late Romanticism. The nonet by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, a contemporary of Wagner and yet an avowed classicist, joins the two extremes into an exciting whole.

The vocal part will be sung by the mezzo-soprano Rita Kapfhammer, who in the years 2007 to 2012 was a permanent member of the soloists' ensemble of the State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz in Munich, with whom she continues to appear as a welcome guest.

Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Nonet in E flat major op. 139
Wolfgang  Amadeus Mozart  Grande sestetto concertante for string sextet after the Sinfonia Concertante KV 364
Richard Wagner Wesendonck Lieder arranged for string sextet

Concert-goers will be able to visit the permanent and temporary exhibitions for a reduced admission price if they show their concert ticket at the museum ticket desk.
