The State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz is a theatre with a unique profile and a tradition dating back more than 150 years. Entertaining musical theatre in all its aspects is the central focus of the theatre's programming, which includes works from the spheres of opera, operetta, musical and dance; in fact, it is the only state theatre in Germany to devote itself to this repertoire. Josef E. Köpplinger has been Artistic Director of the theatre since the autumn of 2012.
