Torsten Frisch

Torsten Frisch studied at the »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« Academy of Music in his home city of Leipzig. He has won a number of competitions, including the 8th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in 1988 in Leipzig.

From 1990 to 1993, Torsten Frisch was a member of the opera studio of the Komische Oper Berlin. In September 1993, he became a member of the ensemble of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, where he covered an extensive repertoire in the areas of opera, operetta and musical. The roles that he played here include the Father (»Hänsel und Gretel«), Marcello (»La bohème«), Olivier (»Capriccio«), Dandini (»La Cenerentola«), Zar (»Zar und Zimmermann«) and Escamillo (»Carmen«).

Torsten Frisch also has a wide repertoire of contemporary music. In 1994, for example, he sang the title role in the first performance of Paul Engel's »Daniel« in Munich and in 2008 in the Herkulessaal in Munich at the »Musica Viva« closing concert. In 1998, he made his début at the Bayerische Staatsoper. This was followed by numerous opera productions, working with August Everding, Claus Guth, Josef E. Köpplinger and Harry Kupfer amongst others.

In addition to radio concerts, the singer has also been involved in various television recordings, e.g. as Sander in Gretry's opera »Zemir und Azor«, as Doctor Stanislaus (»Candide«) and as Graf Ebersbach (»Der Wildschütz«).

In addition to his opera work, Torsten Frisch also has an extensive concert repertoire, covering the standard works in the fields of oratorio and song.

He has worked on a freelance basis since September 2007 and recently played Enterich in »Der Bettelstudent« at the Gärtnerplatztheater.
