Thomas Loibl

Loibl was born in the Lower Rhine district and studied drama at the Westphalian School of Drama in Bochum. His first engagement was at the Schauspielhaus in Düsseldorf, where he was employed from 1994 to 1996 and worked with such directors as Werner Schroeter and Urs Troller. From 1996 to 1998, he was at the Volkstheater in Munich. This was followed by further engagements at the Schauspielhaus Zurich (1998) and Stuttgart State Theatre (1998-2000). He appeared at the Munich Kammerspiele in the 2000/2001 season. From 2001 to 2009, Loibl was a permanent member of the ensemble at Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel.

The most important roles that he has played at the Residenztheater in Munich include Parzival in »Das Spiel vom Fragen« by Peter Handke, Robert in »Das Friedensfest« by Gerhart Hauptmann, Unteroffizier/Lahoussine in »Die Wände« von Jean Genet, the title role in »Theodor, Herzog von Gotland« by Christian Dietrich, Oskar in »Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald«, Robert Dudley in »Maria Stuart« and many more.

In July 2005, Loibl also made a guest appearance as Oskar in Horvath's »Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald« at the Salzburg Festival. He has worked as a freelance actor since 2009. In 2010, he made a guest appearance at the Schauspiel Köln. Since 2005, he has also supplemented his busy stage career by playing a number of roles in films and on television. He also works regularly as a narrator for audio books.

In 2004, Thomas Loibl was awarded the Bayerischer Kunstförderpreis for the performing arts and the Kurt Meisel Prize sponsorship award. In 2010, Loibl was one of the winners of the Kurt Meisel Prize of the Association of Friends of the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel for his contribution to the "children-book-theatre" series.
