Terry Wey

Terry Wey received his vocal training as soloist of the Vienna Boys’ Choir with Silvija V. Purchar and later with Kurt Equiluz and Christine Schwarz in Vienna. Since then he has made guest appearances at the most important baroque festivals and has worked with the most important conductors of this repertoire.

His engagements in recent seasons include the staged production of Bach’s »Christmas Oratorio« at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, the Countertenor Gala at the Kölner Philharmonie, his solo recital at the Händelfestspiele Karlsruhe, Ottone in Handel’s »Agrippina« conducted by Rubén Dubrovsky at the Bonn Opera, the world premiere of Czernowin’s »Heart Chamber« (Deutsche Oper Berlin,) Athamas (»Semele«, Komische Oper Berlin), »Orfeo« (Berliner Staatsoper Unter den Linden), »Antigono« (Internationale Gluckfestspiele), »Jephtha« (Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden), »L’incoronazione di Poppea« (Nationaltheater Mannheim), Händel/Vinci’s »Didone abbandonata« (Schwetzingen), »Rinaldo« (Brüssel und Paris), »Teseo« (Händelfestspiele Karlsruhe), »Israel in Egypt« (Salzburger Festspiele, Schleswig-Holstein Festival), Oberon (»A Midsummer Night’s Dream«, Komische Oper Berlin), »Xerxes« (Deutsche Oper am Rhein), »Johannes-Passion« (Cleveland), »Matthäus-Passion« (Tafelmusik Toronto), »Written on Skin« und »Giulio Cesare« (Oper Bonn), »Niobe« (Boston Early Music Festival), Bach’s »Messe h-Moll« conducted by Marc Minkowski (Wiener Musikverein among others), Bernstein’s »Chichester Psalms« (Berliner Musikfest), Porpora’s »Polifemo« (Schwetzingen), Ruggiero (»Alcina«, Händelfestspiele Halle,) »Partenope« (Händelfestspiele Karlsruhe, Theater an der Wien), Cavalli’s »La Didone« (Les Arts Florissants), Scarlatti’s »Marco Attilio Regolo« (Schwetzingen), Jommelli’s »Betulia Liberata« conducted by Riccardo Muti (Salzburger Pfingstfestspiele), an evening of arias at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the »Four Countertenors« gala in Versailles.

Under conductors such as William Christie, Thomas Hengelbrock, Riccardo Minasi, Marc Minkowski, Riccardo Muti, Christophe Rousset, Vaclav Luks, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Konrad Junghänel, Ruben Dubrovsky or Michael Hofstetter and original sound orchestras such as the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, Collegium 1704, Basler Kammerorchester, Bachakademie Stuttgart, Les Arts Florissants, Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble or the Bach Consort Wien, he has performed in major concert halls and opera houses throughout the world. His CD recordings include the solo CD »Pace e Guerra« as well as Steffani’s »Niobe« with Philippe Jaroussky, Pergolesi’s »Stabat Mater« with Valer Barna-Sabadus and Bach’s »Mass in B minor« under Marc Minkowski.
