Sibylle Canonica

Following her training at the Folkwang Academy of Music Theatre Dance, Sibylle Canonica performed at various theatres, including the Oldenburg State Theatre, Schiller Theatre Berlin, Stuttgart State Theatre, Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and the Munich Kammerspiele. From there she moved to the Residenztheater in Munich. She has performed regularly at the Wiener Festwochen and Salzburg Festival and has worked with George Tabori, Hans Lietzau, Peter Zadek, Thomas Langhoff, Dieter Dorn, Werner Herzog, Franz Xaver Kroetz, Barbara Frey, Herbert Fritsch, Robert Borgmann, Bernhard Mikeska, Martin Kušej, She She Pop and Michael Thalheimer, among others.

In addition to her stage work, Sibylle Canonica has also appeared in numerous cinema and television productions, including Hans-Christian Schmid's »Nach Fünf im Urwald«, Caroline Link's Oscar-nominated film »Jenseits der Stille« and Egon Günther's film »Die Braut« as Charlotte von Stein. In 2002, Sibylle Canonica was nominated for the Swiss Film Award for Best Actress for »Bella Martha« by Sandra Nettelbeck, and in 2012 for the German Television Award for Best Actress in »Tatort - Borowski und die Frau am Fenster«. Most recently, she appeared in Frauke Finsterwalder's film »Sisi und ich«, in »Der Pass« and in »Faltenfrei«.

Since 2007, Canonica has also worked with musicians including the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, der/gelbe/klang, Venice Baroque Orchestra, JOCM, Ensemble Modern and Wittmann/Zeitblom at concerts, festivals and for radio and CD recordings. In 2023 she performed in »Il Ritorno / The Year of Magical Thinking« at the Bavarian State Opera.
