Sami Kustaloglu
Sami Kustaloglu, born in Berlin, began his work as a vocal coach in 1996 and is now a sought-after name on the international singing scene. He currently coaches over 120 singers of all voice ranges, many of whom perform at the world’s leading opera houses, including Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera, Theatre Royal de La Monnaie, Zurich Opera House, Munich State Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Theater an der Wien, Salzburg, Glyndebourne and Aix-en-Provence festivals.
In 2015‒2020 he was a vocal coach for OperAvenir, the opera studio at Theater Basel, and the following year he was a lecturer and vocal coach for the project »Bundesakademie für junges Musiktheater« of the Sommerfestspiele Schloss Rheinsberg. In 2014‒2015 Sami Kustaloglu received a lectureship at the Berlin Universität der Künste in the department KPA ‒ course »Artistic-Pedagogical Training«. Master classes took him to Hong Kong, Vienna and Brussels. For several years he worked as a vocal coach on various television shows such as »Star Search« (Sat.1) and »Das Supertalent« (RTL) ‒ in the first season of this show the tenor he coached won 1st place. Sami Kustaloglu studied at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin with Ingrid Figur and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama London with Rudolf Piernay. Other important teachers for his pedagogical work were Cornelius L. Reid and Anthony Frisell ‒ both in New York.
In addition to his musical training, Sami Kustaloglu holds a degree in »Foundations of Modern Psychology« from the University of London and a title as a non-medical practitioner specialising in manual voice therapy and cranial osteopathy. This knowledge supports him in his work as a singing teacher. Sami Kustaloglu regularly gives advanced training courses for other singing teachers and is a member of the BDG (Bund Deutscher Gesangspädagogen).
