Michaela Springer

Michaela Springer studied stage and costume design with Martin Zehetgruber at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 2000 to 2005. Before and during her study, she worked as an assistant at the Schauspiel Stuttgart and the Aalto Theatre Essen. Michaela Springer has worked as a freelance stage and costume designer since 2005 and has created the designs for productions at the Württembergische Landesbühne Esslingen, the Schauspielhaus in Düsseldorf, the Hesse State Theatre Wiesbaden, Schauspielhaus Dortmund, the Schlosstheater Moers and Den Norske Opera in Oslo.

Michaela Springer first worked with the Stuttgart Ballet in 2005, designing the costumes for Marco Goecke's ballet »Sweet Sweet Sweet«. This was followed by designs for Marco Goecke's »Nussknacker« (2006), »Alben« (2008), »Orlando« (2010) and »Black Break« (2012). She continued her successful collaboration with the house choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet with his subsequent commissioned works, such as »Der Rest ist Schweigen« (2005) and »Bravo Charlie« (2007) for the Scapino Ballet, Rotterdam, »Whiteout« (2008) and »Le spectre de la rose« (2009) for Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, »Deer Vision« (2014) for Ballett Zürich and »Lonesome George« (2015) for the ballet of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Michaela Springer also designed the costumes for Demis Volpi's choreographies »swish“ (2007), »palpable leers« (2008) and »from me to you« (2009) at the »Junge Choreographen« of the Noverre Society and for »Big Blu«“, Volpi's first commissioned work for the Stuttgart Ballett.
