Michael Meinel

Michael Meinel was born in Jena. He began playing the clarinet at the age of 11 at the Berlin-Pankow music school with Dieter Pohl. After graduating from high school, he studied music in Berlin and Weimar with Ewald Koch, Peter Geisler, Johannes Peitz and Martin Spangenberg from 1992. He received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Foundation, won first prize at the 11th Youth Music Competition of the New Federal States and was a prizewinner at the International Chamber Music Competition in Illzach, France. In 1998, the clarinettist was invited to the international music festival Attergau/Austria and in 2000 to the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo/Japan. In the same year, Michael Meinel was engaged as principal bass clarinettist of the orchestra of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.

Temporary work has taken him to the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Bavarian State Orchestra, among others. In addition to his orchestral activities, he also devotes himself intensively to chamber music in various formations and is a member of the “Taffanel Wind Quintet” and the “Trio Chatirone”, among others. In 2014 he was appointed “Bavarian Chamber Musician”. He is also interested in solo literature. He has performed clarinet concertos by Mozart, Molter, Mendelssohn and Weber with the Vogtlandphilharmonie Greiz/Reichenbach and the chamber orchestra Camerata München.
