Markus Hering

Markus Hering was born in Siegen in 1960. After graduating from secondary school, he initially became an apprentice carpenter and worked as a forestry worker. He then attended the University of Music and Drama in Hanover, which was followed by engagements at the Kassel State Theatre, Schauspiel Frankfurt and later in Vienna, both at the Schauspielhaus and at the Volkstheater. For the 1992/1993 season, he finally moved to the Burgtheater, where he was taken on as a permanent member of the ensemble. In 2003, he was awarded the Nestroy Prize for the first time in the Best Actor category for his performance as the Conductor in Gert Jonke's »Chorfantasie«, and he received his second award in 2008 for his performances in the plays »Verbrennungen«, »Freier Fall« and »Pool (Kein Wasser)«. Alongside his theatre career, Markus Hering has also worked as a television and film actor in recent years. In »Whisky mit Wodka« by Andrea Dresen, Hering plays an up-and-coming feature film actor, and he plays the main role in Dany Levi's film »Das Leben ist zu lang« (2010). He has been a member of the ensemble of the Residenztheater in Munich since the start of the 2011/2012 season.
