Magdalena Schnitzler
Magdalena Schnitzler lives and works in Munich, Berlin and the Ruhr area. She gained her initial theatrical experience as an actress and singer in the independent theatre scene in Essen, where she was engaged by the Aalto Theatre as Assistant Director in 2007 and worked with directors such as Dietrich Hilsdorf, Tilman Knabe, Stefan Herheim, Barrie Kosky, Karoline Gruber and Hans Neuenfels.
In 2010, she was taken by Claus Peymann to the Berliner Ensemble, where she was assistant to such directors as Robert Wilson (»Lulu«, »Shakespeare Sonette«, »Die Dreigroschenoper«) and Claus Peymann, whose production of »Einfach kompliziert« with Gert Voss also took her to Vienna's Akademietheater in 2011. In addition, Magdalena Schnitzler has also been involved in many guest performances at international theatre festivals (including the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Next Wave Festival in New York City). In 2011, she worked with Christian Wittmann on the production of Elfriede Jelinek's »In den Alpen/Das Werk« at the Landestheater Linz. She also appeared as Ruth in »Shakespeare Sonette« at the Berliner Ensemble in 2011.
In 2012, Magdalena Schnitzler founded the independent theatre ensemble »Chapeau Club« in Essen, of which she is still Artistic Director today. The surrealistic performance group appears throughout Europe in collaboration with various independent theatres and festivals (including the Ringlokschuppen Mülheim, Fusion Festival, Garbicz Festival, bEATPLANTATIOn).
From the 2013/2014 season until the autumn of 2017, she was employed as a facilitator at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, where she has also worked as a director with the children's opera »Brundibár« and the Offenbach operetta »Salon Pitzelberger«. As an actress, she has appeared on stage here as the Pickpocket in Wilfried Hiller's »Der Flaschengeist« and as Émilie in Marc Schubring's »Gefährliche Liebschaften«.
