Leonhard Kuhn

Leonhard Kuhn studied jazz guitar with Peter OʼMara and jazz composition with Gregor Hübner at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, as well as mathematics at Ludwig Maximilian University. His mathematics studies led him to programming and electronic music. He attended workshops with Daniel Schnyder, Richie Beirach and Elliott Sharp. He has released albums on the jazz label Enja with his trio and as part of the Monika Roscher Big Band. Since 2014, he has been the composer and arranger for the Jazzrausch Big Band, which developed the genre »techno jazz« and releases on Act Music. He performs internationally with this group and plays regular concerts in Munich.

As a composer, Leonhard Kuhn has also worked with ensembles such as the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the Munich Symphony Orchestra. He has also been involved in dance and performance for many years. He has worked intensively with choreographer Cristina DʼAlberto, composing electronic sound concepts for her performances. He has composed chamber music and music for choreographies by Roberta Pisu for the Arcis Collective. In 2021, he composed the music for a new production of George Orwellʼs novel »1984«. His electronic composition also algorithmically processed his own data. As part of the Sonic Art Collective, he programmes and performs music wearing a costume made of sensors.

In 2021, Leonhard Kuhn was awarded the »Förderpreis Musik« by the City of Munich.
