Karsten Januschke

Karsten Januschke, born in Bad Segeberg, studied piano and musicology in Vienna before completing studies in conducting with Georg Mark at the Vienna Conservatory.

While still studying, he worked at the Vienna State Opera as solo coach and conductor of children's operas as well as regularly at Theater an der Wien and at the Bayreuth Festival where he most recently assisted Christian Thielemann in 2012 with »Der Fliegende Holländer«. Further assignments as assistant brought him into contact with conductors like Kirill Petrenko, Seiji Ozawa, Constantinos Carydis, Steven Sloane and Sebastian Weigle.

Since 2008 Karsten Januschke has worked for the Frankfurt Opera, originally as a solo coach and more recently as a concertmaster. In 2010 he made his debut with Telemann's »Pimpinone« as conductor on the podium of the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra. Since then, he has conducted, among other works, »La Traviata«, Chabrier's »L'Étoile«, Stravinsky's »Mavra«, »Der Nussknacker«, Auli Sallinen's »Kullervo« and Lior Navok's »Die kleine Meerjungfrau« as well as »Don Giovanni«, »Così fan tutte« and »Die Zauberflöte«. In addition, he was in charge of conducting the new production of Aribert Reimann's »Die Gespenstersonate«.

In 2014, Karsten Januschke made his debut with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra as well as on the podium of the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern.
