Andreas Zimmermann

The Swiss director, assistant director and actor Andreas Zimmermann was born in Munich in 1966. After completing his acting training at the Hochschule in Frankfurt am Main, he was permanently engaged at the Schauspiel Frankfurt and the theatres in Würzburg and Bern. Since 1995 he has worked as an actor for stage and television. In 2001, his work in musical theatre began with a regular collaboration as assistant director at the Zurich Opera House, where he staged »Scenes from Goethe’s Faust« in 2007. Further productions took him to the Cleveland Orchestra with »Falstaff« (2006), to the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck with the world premiere of »Cadence Macbeth« (2010), to the Biel/Solothurn Theatre with the world premiere of »Figaro¿« (2014) and »La Notte di un Nevrastenico/Gianni Schicchi« (2016) and to the Chamber Opera of the Theater an der Wien with »Carmen« (2016) and to the Landschaftstheater Ballenberg with »Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe« (2019). In 2009/2010 Andreas Zimmermann was head of the theatre at the Grand Théâtre de Genève. He was assistant to Klaus Michael Grüber, Sven Eric Bechtolf, Olivier Py, Robert Carsen, Damiano Michieletto, Pierre Audi, Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, among others.

His activities as a assistant director have taken him to the Salzburg Festival and to the opera houses in Zurich, Vienna, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Munich, Shanghai, Valencia, Strasbourg, Saint-Étienne, Wiesbaden and Mainz. Since the 2021/ 2022 season, he is assistant director at the Gärtnerplatztheater.
