Franz Lichtenstern

Franz Lichtenstern was born in Landsberg am Lech and studied cello at the conservatories in Lübeck and Munich. The most influential musicians during his studies were Klaus Stoppel, Walter Levin and Siegfried Palm. In 1997 he became a member of the orchestra of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.

In addition to the orchestra, Franz Lichtenstern's passion as a musician lies above all in chamber music. Since 2009, he has organized the “Chamber Music in the Library Hall” concert series in his home town of Landsberg am Lech. Many of the Gärtnerplatztheater's chamber concerts are repeated there, usually to enthusiastic audiences. Since 2012, he has also been one of the two artistic directors of the “Rathauskonzerte Landsberg”.

In 2014, Franz Lichtenstern was appointed Bavarian Chamber Musician, and in 2015 the town of Landsberg awarded him the Dominikus Zimmermann Rocaille.

He can be heard in many concerts as a chamber musician and has also been a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra since 2017.

Franz Lichtenstern plays a cello made by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume in 1859.
