Claudia Wettengel

Claudia Wettengel grew up in Ansbach. In addition to her music school education in flute, the soprano discovered her singing ambitions early on as a member of various choirs in her neighbourhood before taking her first singing lessons with Barry Hanner at the Nuremberg Master Conservatory in 1993. Over the next three years, the singer trained as a nurse alongside her studies.

From 1996, she studied at the Detmold University of Music with Gabriella Lichter-Maxande. Masterclasses with Edith Selig-Papée, Thomas Quasthoff and Walter Berry complemented her vocal training. In 1999, she received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Society in Kassel for the Bayreuth Festival. In spring 2001, she took part in concerts as part of the Salzburg Mozart Week, which were repeated in Prague. 2001, she took part in the Festival International D’Art Lyrique in Aix-en-Provence, where she performed in Verdi’s »Falstaff« and numerous lieder recitals. In 2002, she took part in a tour of Japan with Mozart’s »Le nozze di Figaro« and made a guest appearance as Jano (»Jenůfa«) at the Bielefeld Theatre in 2003.

Claudia Wettengel has been a member of the chorus at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz since 2003 and has also sung in the Bayreuth Festival Chorus.
