Carlos Cardoso
The Portuguese tenor Carlos Cardoso studied at the University »Beira Interior« with Paulo Ferreira. He participated in master classes with Tom Krause, Luigi Alva, Luciana D’Intino, Luciana Serra, Renato Bruson, Mirella Freni and Raul Giménez, among others, and was the winner of numerous important prizes. In 2010/2011 he was a member of the Opera Studio at the Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon and in 2011‒2013 at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan. During this time he sang numerous concerts in Italy as well as in »Un giorno di regno« at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona. At La Scala in Milan he made his debut in »La scala di seta«, in »Don Carlo« as Conte di Lerma, in »La Cenerentola« as Don Ramiro and in »Rigoletto« as Duca (cover for Vittorio Grigolo).
Guest engagements have taken him to the Dutch National Opera Amsterdam (»Lucia di Lammermoor« and »Il viaggio a Reims«), the Rossini Festival in Wildbad (»Il viaggio a Reims«), the Liceu de Barcelona (»La favorita«) and the Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussels (»Adriana Lecouvreur«). He also sang Duca (»Rigoletto«) and Edoardo (»Un giorno di regno«) at the Teatro Verdi di Busseto as part of the Parma Verdi Festival, Ismaele (»Nabucco«) and Rodolfo (»La bohème«) at the Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon, Leicester (»Maria Stuarda«) at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Tebaldo (»I Capuleti e i Montecchi«) at the Vilnius Opera, as well as in Orff’s »Carmina Burana« and Jonathan Dove’s »Monster in the maze« with the Fundação Gulbenkian.
Since 2017/2018 he has been a member of the ensemble at the Aalto Theatre in Essen, where his roles have included as Pinkerton (»Madama Butterfly«), Alfredo (»La traviata«), Duca (»Rigoletto«), Rodolfo (»Luisa Miller«), Cassio (»Otello«), Narraboth (»Salome«), Rodolfo (»La bohème«), Don José (»Carmen«), Sou-Chong (»Das Land des Lächelns«), Ismaele (»Nabucco«) and Singer (»Der Rosenkavalier«), Beppe (»Pagliacci«), Rinuccio (»Gianni Schicchi«), Edgardo (»Lucia di Lammermoor«), Riccardo (»Un ballo in maschera«), Adorno (»Simone Boccanegra«) and Pollione (»Norma«) on stage.
Guest engagements in Germany have taken Carlos Cardoso to Gelsenkirchen as Pinkerton and Don José, to Magdeburg as Rodolfo (»La bohème«) and Cassio, to Koblenz and Wiesbaden as Duca, among others. In 2022 he made his debut at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste in a New Year’s Eve concert. On the concert stage he sang, among others. in Dvořák’s »Requiem« (Tonkünstlerorchester in Grafenegg and at the Vienna Musikverein), Puccini’s »Messa di Gloria« (Wuppertal), in Rossini’s »Petite Messe solennelle« (Millenium Festival ao largo in Lisbon), Donizetti’s »Messa da Requiem« (Teatro Sao Carlo in Lisbon), Janáček’s »Glagolitic Mass« and Rossini’s »Stabat Mater« (Philharmonie Essen). He has also performed in opera galleys at the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Teatro Verdi di Trieste and at Schloss Neukirchen in the TV Summer Concert (Philharmonie Südwestfalen).
