Bavo Orroi
Born in Belgium, Bavo Orroi started piano lessons at a young age. He also played tuba and euphonium in various orchestras and brass bands. Already during his master’s degree in euphonium at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, he was accepted into the opera class there. In 2015 he began his Master’s studies at the August Everding Theatre Academy in Munich. Here Bavo Orroi appeared on stage in 2017 as Steward in Jonathan Dove’s opera »Flight« at the Prinzregententheater and as Calandrino in Paisiello’s »Der eingebildete Sokrates«. Previously he embodied Zuniga in »Carmen«, Cold Genius in »King Arthur«, Schaunard in »La bohème« and Guglielmo in »Così fan tutte«. He is also familiar with contemporary music theatre, and has appeared in Blanka Rádóczy’s »Phonecall to Hades« at the 2016 Munich Biennale and in »Würgen des Fasans« at the Reaktorhalle, among others.
As a concert singer, Bavo Orroi has performed Brahms’ »Ein Deutsches Requiem«, Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s »Die erste Walpurgisnacht«, Frank Martin’s »In terra pax« and a Bach repertoire ranging from »Christmas Oratorio«, »St Matthew Passion« and »Mass in B minor« to the solo cantata BWV 82 »Ich habe genug«. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the Dortmund Philharmonic, the Bochum Symphony, the Plauen-Zwickau Philharmonic and the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia.
Since 2020 Bavo Orroi has been a permanent member of the choir of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz as 1st bass.
