Tristan Braun

Tristan Braun was born in Munich, where he took violin and piano lessons from an early age, trained in both contemporary and classical dance, and worked as a voice-over artist, including for Bayerischer Rundfunk. In 2005, he won the »German Audiobook Prize«. He studied musical theatre direction at the »Hanns Eisler« Academy of Music in Berlin, where he came into contact with directors such as Stefan Herheim, Andrea Moses and Barrie Kosky. Whilst still a student, he assisted Sasha Waltz at the Berlin State Opera. Further engagements took him to the Salzburg Festival, where he worked with Jürgen Flimm and Dieter Dorn, as well as to the Komische Oper Berlin. At the same time, he performs as a violinist with Baroque ensembles such as La Banda, the lautten compagney Berlin and Concerto Köln.

In 2025, Tristan Braun was awarded the Bayerischer Rundfunk’s »Operettenfrosch« for his production of »Märchen im Grand Hotel« at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg; his production of »Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten« was nominated for »Best Revival« at the »German Musical Theatre Awards« in the same year. He was a semi-finalist for the »RING Award 2020« in Graz. The 2025/2026 season saw him direct »Im weißen Rössl« at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg and »Tischlein, deck dich!« at the Brüder Grimm Festspiele Hanau. Prior to this, he directed Humperdinck’s »Hänsel und Gretel« at the Landestheater Schleswig-Holstein (2022) and Lehár’s »Die lustige Witwe« at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg (2023). During the pandemic, the installation-based production »MEMBRA«, based on Buxtehude’s cantata cycle »Membra Jesu Nostri«, was created at the Kühlhaus in Berlin. He realised further cross-genre projects with Folkert Uhde and the Ensemble Resonanz (»CONTAIN«), with the SALZ project, and with the stegreif.orchester (»#freesolo«).

In 2026, he will made his directorial debut in his hometown of Munich with the world premiere of »Als Hitler das rosa Kaninchen stahl«. Prior to that, he directed Handel’s »Giulio Cesare« at the Klaipėda State Music Theatre (KSMT) in Lithuania.
