Lighting design
Paul Grilj
Paul Grilj studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and is a lighting designer, lighting technician, composer and musician. From 2005 to 2015, he was a lighting designer and lighting technician at the Schauspielhaus Graz; from 2015 to 2022, he was head of the Lighting/Video Department at the Vienna Volkstheater; and since 2022, he has been working as a freelance artist internationally. In addition to numerous projects at these two venues, Paul Grilj has also worked at the Staatsoper Berlin Unter den Linden, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Severance Hall in Cleveland, the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Bregenz Festival, the Aalto Theater Essen, the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, the Opéra National de Lorraine, the Schaubühne Berlin, the Berliner Ensemble, the Opéra de Toulon, the Salzburg Festival, the Steinbruch Margarethen, the SWR Festival, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Graz Opera, the Staatstheater Nürnberg, the Magdeburg Theatre, the St. Gallen Theatre, the Stuttgart State Opera, the Theater an der Wien, and the Yauza Palace in Moscow.
Grilj has worked with, amongst others, Oliver Frljić, Claudia Bauer, Kay Voges, Nikolaus Habjan, Anna Bernreitner, Sebastian Baumgarten, Dusan David Parizek, Andrea Moses, Miloš Lolić, Stephan Kimmig, Viktor Bodó, Sascha Hawemann, Jonathan Meese, Volker Lösch, Rieke Süßkow, Nils Strunk, Christian Brey, Bernadette Sonnenbichler, Krystian Lupa, Anna Badora, Musikbanda Franui, Philipp Krenn, Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Anna Mahler, Wojtek Klemm, Barbara Wysocka, Kieran Joel and Ragnar Kjartansson.
