Mina Yu
The lyric soprano Mina Yu was born in Seoul. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in »Classical Singing« at Ewha Womans University. Even whilst still a student, she performed in numerous concerts, singing at events including Young Artist Concerts, French, German and English recitals, and various gala concerts. In 2020, she moved to Germany, where she completed her Master’s degree in opera and her concert examination at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre under the tutelage of Carolyn Grace James. As part of her training, she took part in opera productions such as »Das Rheingold«, »Rinaldo«, »Opera concise«, »Le nozze di Figaro« and »Die Fledermaus«. From 2023 to 2025, Mina Yu was a member of the opera studio at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz. There, she appeared in roles including Sophie in »Werther«, Anna Reich in »Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor«, Frasquita in »Carmen«, Oberto in »Alcina« and Giannetta in »L’elisir d’amore«.
At the Ewha Singing Competition in Seoul, she won first prize and was subsequently invited to perform at the opera gala concert held there. In addition, as a scholarship holder of »Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now«, she was awarded the »Mozart Prize of the Absalom Foundation« and honours at the Elise Meyer Competition in Hamburg and the Hamel Competition in Hanover. In 2021, she performed at the closing concert of the 11th German Lied Academy in Trossingen. This was followed by recitals, opera galas and charity concerts in Germany, Italy, Austria, Latvia and South Korea. She has attended masterclasses with, amongst others, Edita Gruberová, Brigitte Fassbaender, Okka von der Damerau and Sumi Jo. Her versatile repertoire encompasses lyrical, coloratura and dramatic roles.
