Christian Tabakoff

Christian Andre Tabakoff studied art history as well as set and costume design at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart.

In collaboration with director Christiane Lutz, he created the set design for ‘Rigoletto’ for the Glyndebourne Festival. Philippe Boesmans’ opera »La Ronde« was staged at the Opéra national de Paris. For the Bavarian State Opera at the Cuvilliés Theatre, Tabakoff designed the sets for »The Consul« and »Mignon«. During the 2025/26 season, he was responsible for the set design of Hans Werner Henze’s »Die englische Katze« at the same venue.

Further engagements took him to, among others, the Theater Lübeck (»Salome«), the Landestheater Salzburg (»The Magic Flute«) and the Theater an der Wien (»Rinaldo«, »Hansel and Gretel«, »Orfeo ed Euridice«). He has also worked at the Neue Oper Wien, the MuTh Wien, the Stadttheater Gießen and the Theater Bielefeld. Furthermore, he designed Viktor Ullmann’s »Der Kaiser von Atlantis« at the Semperoper Dresden. His work on »Le nozze di Figaro« at the Theater an der Wien (2020) received particular acclaim.

At the Salzburg Festival, Christian Andre Tabakoff serves as technical production manager, overseeing the realisation of the set design and coordinating the complex production processes involved in the international festival environment for productions such as Kirill Serebrennikov’s »Das Rheingold« and Romeo Castellucci’s »Don Giovanni«.
