Britta Leonhardt

Britta Leonhardt, born in Hamburg, completed a tailoring apprenticeship there with Jil Sander, went on to study costume design at the University of Applied Sciences, and worked as an assistant at the Thalia Theatre. In recent seasons, she has designed costumes for opera and drama productions, including those by Dirk Schmeding, Ingo Kerkhof, Kevin Barz, Martin Kusej, Andrea Schwalbach, Brit Bartkowiak, Mirja Biel, Marc Becker, Karsten Wiegand, Stephan Kimmig, K. D. Schmidt, Nicolai Sykosch, Peter Hailer, Sebastian Kreyer and Ludger Engels. As a freelance costume and set designer, she has worked at venues including the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Konzert Theater Bern, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, the Staatstheater Dresden, the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Bühnen der Stadt Köln, the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, the Staatstheater Augsburg, the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Luzerner Theater, the Staatstheater Braunschweig, the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, the Theater Bonn, the Staatstheater Mainz and the Münchner Volkstheater. She also designed the costumes for the opera film adaptation »Hunter’s Bride« as well as for several short films.
