Choreography

Emanuele Soavi

After training in Florence and Reggio Emilia, Italian-born Emanuele Soavi was taken on as a dancer at the Opera Roma in 1996 and made guest appearances at such theatres as the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. There then followed permanent engagements at Ballett Dortmund and the Dutch company Introdans, where he worked with choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Hans van Manen, William Forsythe, Renato Zanella and Mats Ek.

He has worked as a freelance choreographer since 2006 and helped establish the independent Cologne collective movingtheatre.de for which he created a large number of works which he was invited to take to such cities as Amsterdam, Rome and Berlin and to many European dance festivals. In parallel, he developed choreographies for clients such as Dortmund Theatre, Aachen Theatre, the Regensburg City Theatre, the Cologne Academy of Music and Dance, Introdans and the AGORA Coaching Project Reggio Emilia. He has been invited as a guest trainer to cities including Rome and Osnabrück and for choreography workshops to Turin, Milan and Valencia.

In his work, Emanuele Soavi is increasingly working in cooperation with international artists and networking with other European dance ensembles and event venues. His productions have been nominated several times for the Cologne Dance Prize, and he was awarded this prize in 2009 for »Site Specific« and was the first dancer to be awarded the Cologne Performance Prize, presented to him in 2011 for »PANcomplex«. In 2012, he founded his own label, »emanuelesoavi INcompany«.
