Two dancers in white costumes. The one on the left leans forward, her arms bent and covered with white gloves. She wears a white, partly semi-transparent corset top and wide, white, shiny trousers. White flowers are attached to her upper body. The one on the right stands upright, her head tilted back. She clasps her hands and touches her chest. She also wears a white top, white gloves and wide, white trousers. She too is decorated with flowers. The background is dark, and a glowing, ring-shaped circle surrounds the dancers on the floor.
Many dancers stand evenly spaced on the stage, which is sparsely lit from above. They fold their arms at hip height and tilt their heads back. They wear ochre-coloured tops and floor-length, very wide black trousers.

Gershwin and Stravinsky – the two composers appear to be worlds apart, both geographically and musically. While the Russian avant-garde composer radically expanded the musical tradition with loud sounds and quirky harmonies, the American musical genius perfected “symphonic jazz” with lively rhythms, car horn sounds and saxophone notes. One city connects them both: Gershwin’s stay in Paris in 1926 inspired him to write his famous tone poem, “An American in Paris”. Stravinsky had already celebrated the world premiere of his ballet music Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring) here in 1913 – with scandalous results! Gershwin and Stravinsky met in person for the first time in New York in 1925. 100 years later, they meet again in the Gärtnerplatztheater.
