Sophia Theodorides

The German-Greek coloratura soprano Sophia Theodorides studied singing with Sophia Bart and Jeanne Piland at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf. She attended masterclasses with Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Marga Schiml and Edita Gruberova, among others. While still a student, she made her stage debut at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as the Princess in Marius Felix Langeʼs »Die Schneekönigin«. She was a finalist in the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition and won first prize in the International Singing Competition of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg.

From 2016 to 2019, she was a member of the ensemble at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck and from 2019 to 2021 at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. Her repertoire there included roles such as Zerbinetta (»Ariadne auf Naxos«), Philine (»Mignon«), Oscar (»Un ballo in maschera«), Italian Singer (»Capriccio«), Amor (»Orphée et Euridice«), Maria (»West Side Story«), Ännchen (»Der Freischütz«) and Olympia (»Les Contes dʼHoffmann«).

Sophia Theodorides has been working as a freelancer since 2021 and has performed at the Zurich Opera House (Lucia in »Lucia di Lammermoor«), Opera North Leeds (Leïla in »Les Pêcheurs de Perles«), the Vienna Volksoper (Olympia), at the Leipzig Opera, the Dutch Reisopera, at the Nuremberg State Theatre, at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf and at the Braunschweig State Theatre (Queen of the Night in »Die Zauberflöte«), at the Aalto Theatre Essen (Lucia, Queen of the Night), at the Bonn Theatre (Adele in »Die Fledermaus«, The Controller in »Flight«, »Carmina Burana«), at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Lucia, Adele, Marie in »La Fille du régiment«), at the Theater Lübeck (Lucia), at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar (Violetta Valéry in »La traviata«), at the Theater Osnabrück (Lucia, Violetta Valéry) and at the Staatstheater Mainz (Sophie in »Der Rosenkavalier«).

For her role debut as Lucia di Lammermoor, she was nominated as Singer of the Year by »Opernwelt« in 2022. Her portrayal of Olympia at the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck was awarded the »Austrian Music Theatre Prize«. She made her debut at the Gärtnerplatztheater in 2025 as the Queen of the Night, 2026 she also appeared here as Violetta Valéry.
