Julia Sturzlbaum

Vienna native Julia Sturzlbaum graduated in 2020 from the Musical Entertainment Theatre program at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK). Prior to this, she was a member of the Vienna Volksoper childrenʼs choir for several years, appearing in numerous productions such as (»Gräfin Mariza«), »Turandot« and »Fiddler on the Roof«. From 2008 to 2016, she trained in jazz, ballet, and tap dance under Ivana Neuweg, participating in numerous competitions during that time. While attending the Musikgymnasium Wien, she also received piano training from Elisabeth Eschwé. She is currently continuing her vocal studies with Monika Rebholz.

In 2018, Julia Sturzlbaum won the Walter Jurmann Vocal Competition. Since then, her stage appearances have included performing as a soloist in Leonard Bernstein’s »Mass« at the Vienna Musikverein, as Adele in »Die Fledermaus« at the Langenlois Festival, and as Jenna Rolan in the German-language premiere of the Broadway musical »Be More Chill« (directed by Werner Sobotka). In 2019, she made her role debut as Pauline in »La Vie Parisienne« at the Lehár Festival in Bad Ischl (directed by Markus Kupferblum). She was awarded the Young Talent Prize by the Proskenion Foundation for the Performing Arts in 2020 and won the Heinrich Strecker Competition in 2021. In 2022, she performed in concert with Michael Schade in Vienna.

From 2020 to 2025, she was a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz. Her roles there included Despina (»Così fan tutte«), Pepi (»Wiener Blut«), Eliza Doolittle (»My Fair Lady«), Hilde Tobler (»Drei Männer im Schnee«), Sandy Lester (»Tootsie«), Judith (Monty Python’s »Not the Messiah«), Christel von der Post (»Der Vogelhändler«), Cosette (»Les Misérables«), and Mabel (»The Pirates of Penzance«). During her time in Munich, guest engagements took her to the Salzburger Landestheater, where she sang the female lead in Alma Deutscher’s opera »Des Kaisers neue Kleider«, and to Theater St. Gallen, where she appeared as Cosette in »Les Misérables«.

Since the 2025/2026 season, Julia Sturzlbaum has been a member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper Hannover. Her roles there to date include Zerlina (»Don Giovanni«), Hope Harcourt (»Anything Goes«) and Juliette (»Die tote Stadt«).
