Hedwig Ritter

The Austrian soprano Hedwig Ritter has been a member of the ensemble at the Vienna Volksoper since the 2022/23 season. Prior to this, she studied singing at the MUK in Vienna and the HfMT in Cologne, and after completing her studies she was a member of the opera studio in Linz. Previous engagements include the Queen of the Night in »Die Zauberflöte« at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg and the world premiere of »Der Besucher« at the Theater Bielefeld in Germany. In November 2025, she won the First International Bogdan Paprocki Competition in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

In the 2025/26 season, she will appear in the role of Ariadne in »Der Rosenkavalier« at the Kraków Opera, as well as the Marschallin in »Der Rosenkavalier«, Rosalinde in »Die Fledermaus«, the First Lady in »Die Zauberflöte« and Giulietta in »Les contes d’Hoffmann« at the Volksoper. In 2026/27, she will take on roles including Salome and Mimi in »La bohème« at the Volksoper and Ariadne at the Gärtnerplatztheater.

Highlights from recent seasons include Jolanthe in »Jolanthe und der Nussknacker«, Mrs Fluth in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor«, Micaëla in »Carmen«, Gretel in »Hänsel und Gretel« and Eurydice in »Orpheus in der Unterwelt«.

In spring 2025, she once again appeared as a soloist on the Toyota Master Players’ tours of Japan – an orchestra comprising members of the Vienna Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras – following her highly successful debut there in 2023. Also in 2025, she made her debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus in a gala concert featuring arias from operettas.
