Corinna Niemeyer

Corinna Niemeyer completed her training as a conductor at the Zurich University of the Arts, having previously studied orchestral conducting, school music and violoncello at the music academies in Karlsruhe, Munich and Shanghai. She has won several international conducting competitions, including the Tokyo International Conducting Competition in 2015 and the Talent Chef dʼorchestre in Paris in 2014. During her studies, she was artistic director of the Orchestre Universitaire de Strasbourg and established the orchestra as one of the most active university orchestras in Europe. From 2016 to 2018, she was a lecturer and principal conductor at the Sorbonne University in Paris. For her cultural commitment, she was awarded the »Prize of German-French Friendship« in 2018 by the German Consulate General in Strasbourg. As assistant conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (2018‒2020), she assisted Lahav Shani and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Between 2012 and 2021, she also worked as assistant to Ivan Fischer and Francois-Xavier Roth (including on »Les Troyens«).

From 2020 to 2024, Corinna Niemeyer was music director of the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg, where she conducted works by Rameau, Haydn and Mozart, as well as Berliozʼs »Les nuits dʼété« and Ligetiʼs »Mysteries of the Macabre«. She has also made guest appearances with the Orchestre de Paris, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the Kammerakademie Potsdam, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Munich Radio Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y Léon. She also works regularly with Les Siècles on historical instruments and with the Ensemble Modern.

As an opera conductor, Corinna Niemeyer has appeared at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London (»The Rape of Lucretia«, British premiere of George Benjaminʼs »Picture a day like this«), the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg (new production of »Le nozze di Figaro«), the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples (revival of »Picture a day like this«), the Detroit Opera (new production of »Così fan tutte«) and the English National Opera (»Suor Angelica«). She has also conducted productions in Lausanne, St. Gallen, Lille and Cologne with a repertoire ranging from Purcell and Mozart to Massenet and Ravel.

»Hänsel und Gretel« marks her debut at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz.
