Clemens Weigel
Clemens Weigel, principal cellist, has been a member of the Staatsorchester am Gärtnerplatz since 1993. He began playing the cello at the age of six and was accepted very early into Gerhard Hamann's youth class at the Trossingen Academy of Music. After graduating from high school, he studied cello and chamber music with André Navarra and Walter Nothas at the music academies in Vienna and Munich, graduating with a master class diploma. In addition to his orchestral activities, he is a cellist with the Rodin Quartet, the Ensemble Berlin and the Wolfgang Bauer Consort. He has held a teaching position at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich since 1999. Clemens Weigel has won prizes at various national and international competitions, including first prize with special prize at the international music competition “Palma dʼoro” in Finale Ligure.
