Costume Design
Bernhard Stegbauer
Bernhard Stegbauer lives in Vienna, where he trained in graphic and communication design at the Graphische. He also graduated from the Michelbeuern Fashion School, having completed both the Fashion College and the Master School for Men’s Tailors. He gained his first experience in theatre as a costume assistant at the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien on »Schikaneder«, and later on »Wiener Blut« at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre, a co-production by Johann Strauss 2025 Wien and the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen. At the same time he worked as a menswear tailor at Art for Art Theaterservice GmbH, during which time he increasingly shifted his focus to his own creative work in costume design.
Other current projects include working as a costume assistant on »Un ballo in maschera« at the Vienna State Opera and »Le nozze di Figaro« at Theater Basel. These productions are also directed by Nikolaus Habjan in collaboration with costume designer Denise Heschl-Sprung. Alongside his work in theatre, he continues to devote himself to projects in the field of fashion.
