Barbara Obermeier

Raised in a family of musicians near Munich, Barbara Obermeier discovered her love for singing and the performing arts at an early age. She began her training in 2002 at the Abraxas Musical Academy in Munich. While still a student, she made her debut in 2005 in Füssen, playing the roles of Sophie and Sisi in the world premiere of »Ludwig²«. Engagements in productions such as »Les Misérables« and »Jekyll & Hyde« followed, as well as a tour playing Cedric in »Der kleine Lord«). From 2008 onwards, her work increasingly took her to Austria and Switzerland, with roles including »Rebecca« in Vienna, the world premiere of »Der Graf von Monte Christo« in St. Gallen and »Gustav Klimt« in Gutenstein. She spent two years at Vienna’s Ronacher Theatre, where she played Sarah and various vampire roles in »Tanz der Vampire«. Other highlights included »Sister Act«, the role of Elle Woods in the German-language premiere of »Legally Blonde« and »Love Never Dies«.

From 2014, she held a permanent contract with the Musiktheater Linz, where she played roles such as Cosette (»Les Misérables«), Magnolia (»Show Boat«) and Sally (The Who’s »Tommy«). Starting in 2016, she played Maria Rainer in »The Sound of Music« at the Vienna Volksoper. She also appeared in »Footloose«, »Hair«, »Rock of Ages« and »We Will Rock You« at the Musical Sommer Amstetten. Subsequent productions included »Jesus Christ Superstar«, »Der Medicus« and »Kiss Me, Kate«, as well as a long-running engagement in »Cats« at the Vienna Ronacher, where she also performed as Grizabella. In the 2023/2024 season, she once again appeared in »Jekyll & Hyde« and played Éponine and Fantine in »Les Misérables« in St. Gallen and ‒ for the first time ‒ at the Gärtnerplatztheater. Engagements in 2025 and 2026 brought her to Shanghai with the concert formats »Sylvester Levay & Friends« and »Uwe Kröger & Friends«. She appeared in »Rudolf – The Last Kiss« at the Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein in 2026. She also performed in »Songs for a New World« ‒ a work that has accompanied her since her training days and holds a special place in her heart.
