Anton Kammermeier

Bassist Anton Kammermeier, born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, has held the position of principal bass at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz since September 2024. He initially studied with Nabil Shehata and Wies de Boevé at the Musikhochschule München from 2014‒2018 before moving to the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin to complete his bachelor’s degree with Nabil Shehata in 2021. From 2021‒2023, he went straight on to study for a master’s degree in Munich, where he also received important inspiration from Maximilian Hornung. He then studied for his concert exam with Philipp Stubenrauch at the HMDK Stuttgart. He took part in masterclasses with Francesco Petracchi, Klaus Stoll, Günter Klaus and Josef Gilgenreiner and is a member of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.

In his orchestral career, Anton Kammermeier has played in three German radio orchestras, as an academy member he was part of the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin from 2019‒2021, in the 2022/2023 season he had a temporary contract with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and in 2024 he also played in the WDR Symphony Orchestra with a temporary contract. The bassist has participated in numerous international competitions, reaching the semi-finals of the J. M. Sperger Competition in 2018 and 2022 and also winning the V. Agustin Aponte Competition 2020 in Tenerife, the Golden Classical Music Awards 2020 and the first Domenico Dragonetti Competition 2024 in Venice. He has already worked as a solo bassist with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim and Jonathan Nott and, in addition to music, pursues his passion for mountaineering at home.
