Children's Choir

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Gärtnerplatztheater Children's Choir is characterised by a long tradition, sound vocal training and a special team spirit. After passing the entrance exam, the children receive voice training in small groups and rehearse the current choir parts in weekly rehearsals until they go on stage.

There are many opportunities to perform both in the choir and as a soloist on the stage of the State Theatre. The children perform with the ensemble and choir in musicals, operas, operettas and concerts.

REHEARSALS

Weekly on Fridays, 4:30–6:30 p.m.
Additional rehearsals are scheduled before performances (in the afternoons and on Saturdays).

Do you enjoy singing, dancing and acting, are you at least 8 years old and would you like to perform on stage with the professionals? Then join our children's choir!

REQUIREMENTS

Aged 8 and above, or 7 and above with exceptional talent. Anyone up to the age of approximately 12 can apply.

Any child who loves to sing, has a beautiful voice and enjoys performing on stage is welcome to apply. No previous experience, such as singing or acting lessons, is necessary. Participation in the children’s choir is free of charge.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Audition with two songs of your choice,
recite a poem of your choice (1-2 verses depending on age)

HISTORY

The State Theatre Children's Choir at Gärtnerplatz was founded more than 30 years ago and has since participated in numerous musical theatre productions at the Gärtnerplatz Theatre, including operas such as »Die Zauberflöte«, »Carmen«, »Hänsel und Gretel« and »Tosca«, operettas such as »Im weißen Rössl« and »Drei Männer im Schnee«, and musicals such as »Tschitti Tschitti Bäng Bäng«. Outside the realm of musical theatre, the children's choir maintains an extensive song and concert repertoire, which is regularly presented in concert settings.

Verena Sarré has been directing the choir since 2004 and also trains child soloists, such as the three boys in »Die Zauberflöte«, the shepherd boy in »Tosca« and the two protagonists Jeremy and Jemima Potts in »Tschitti Tschitti Bäng Bäng«.

»My professional work involves teaching important musical content. The children come to an audition with voices that are still untrained. After passing the entrance exam, all children receive voice training in small groups. The current choir parts are rehearsed in weekly rehearsals. Exercises in body control and stage presence also play an important role in the rehearsal work. I would like to encourage all children aged eight and above who are enthusiastic about singing, dancing and acting to register for an audition. The experiences on stage, the experiences gained in practical theatre work and singing together in a choir are enriching for life.«
