Soloist

Sophie Mitterhuber

The Austrian soprano Sophie Mitterhuber studied singing at the Mozarteum Salzburg with Horiana Brănișteanu and Wolfgang Holzmair. In addition, she attended masterclass courses with Kurt Widmer and Brigitte Fassbaender. She is also a prize-winner of the International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum Salzburg.

While she was still a student, the young soprano made her début as Barbarina (»Le nozze di Figaro«) at the Landestheater Salzburg; she also sang this role at the Regensburg Theatre.

2010–2016 she has been a member of the ensemble at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, where she performed as Carolina (»Il matrimonio segreto«), Esmeralda (»Die verkaufte Braut«), Ciboletta (»Eine Nacht in Venedig«), Ilia (»Idomeneo«), Nannetta (»Falstaff«) and Constance (»Dialogues des Carmélites«). In addition, she has also made guest appearances in such productions as »Intermezzo« at the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In 2014/2015, she made her role débuts as Gretel (»Hänsel und Gretel«) and Sophie (»Der Rosenkavalier«) in Innsbruck.

In addition to musical theatre, Sophie Mitterhuber is passionately devoted to lieder, chamber music and the oratorio. She has interpreted works such as Bach's »Johannespassion«, Mozart's »c-Moll-Messe« and »Requiem«, Mendelssohn's Psalm »Wie der Hirsch schreit« and Haydn's »Nelson-Messe« at concerts at home and abroad. In the world of chamber music, she has worked with such famous musicians as Lukas Hagen and Herbert Schuch.

2014/2015 she made her debut at the Gärtnerplatztheater as Norina in »Don Pasquale«, since 2016/2017 she is member of the ensemble and sang roles like Gretel (»Hänsel und Gretel«), Valencienne (»Die lustige Witwe«), Zerlina (»Don Giovanni«), Sophie Scholl (»Weiße Rose«), Franziska Cagliari (»Wiener Blut«), Pamina (»Die Zauberflöte«), Baronin Freimann (»Der Wildschütz«), Nadina (»Der tapfere Soldat«) and the title role in »Die Kluge«.

She was awarded the »Stern des Jahres 2019« in the category »Klassik« by the Abendzeitung München.
