Stage design »Schlagobers«

Marco Brehme

Marco Brehme's passion for theatre started with Beckett's »Endspiel«, a production by the »Aufbruch« theatre group with inmates of Tegel Prison in Berlin. As a student trainee, he gained his initial experience on the stage of the Theaterhaus in Jena and during the Kulturarena festival there. After studying architecture, he worked as a project architect for Jena's Festival Neue Szenografie »Crash!Boom!Bau!«, working with students of London's Architectural Association School of Architecture on the design of a temporary pneumatic foyer building and coordinating its approval and realisation. With »Der Dritte Weg. Eine theatrale Demonstration«, he was invited as co-stage designer to the »Heimspiel« Festival of the Federal Cultural Foundation and Schauspiel Köln in 2011. At the Magdeburg Theatre, he assisted such stage designers as Karel Spanhak, Kaspar Glarner, Thilo Reuther and Christoph Weyers. In the 2013/2014 season, he worked at the Magdeburg Theatre as Assistant to the Technical Director and as a freelance set designer for ballet and theatre productions. As a member of the creative team for the musical »Aida« at the 2014 Lake Thun Festival, he assisted Karel Spanhak and was responsible for props. Marco Brehme designed the sets for »Komödie im Dunkeln« for the Vorpommern Theatre. He is making his debut at the Gärtnerplatztheater with the stage design for »Schlagobers«.
